Scouts

The 3rd section of the Scout movement is the Scouts themselves, for children aged between ten and a half and fourteen years old. Scouting was established over a century ago by Robert Baden-Powell when he set up the first experimental camp for 20 boys in 1907. We meet on Mondays at 1st Shipley Scout hut between 6.15 and 8.15pm, term time only.

Scouts is quite a bit more advanced than Beavers and Cubs, giving these older children a wider range of activities to try out and plenty opportunities to get stuck into more physical challenges so they can begin pushing their limits and reach their potentials.

The focus of Scouts is about participation; getting everybody involved to work together, have fun together and grow together. As part of a Scout troop they can begin to discover their own abilities and talents, learn about our world and the importance of keeping fit, and start to develop their personal values and attitudes, so that they can mature to become strong individuals.

Undoubtedly, there is a much greater focus on traditional scouting activities. That means more time outdoors, more camping, learning survival skills and cooking, as well as various exciting and challenging activities ranging from abseiling to kayaking.

1st Shipley Scouts understand the importance of being with friends and being part of a team.

They are more than ready to take on their challenges and immerse themselves in the adventure! Would you like to join in? Just contact us via the link at the top of this page.
