CUBS
Children between eight and ten and a half years of age can enrol into the Scout family as a Cub Scout, the middle group of the movement, coming after Beavers and before Scouts. We meet at the scout hut on Tuesdays between 6.30 and 8pm, term time only.
As part of a Cub pack children can take part in more challenging activities than they could as a Beaver, including much more outdoor activities – especially camping!
1st Shipley Cubs are an animated group and, being older and more adventurous, are given plenty opportunities to develop their scouting skills.
There are plenty of badges Cubs can earn by mastering these skills and taking part in lots of exciting activities and challenges, which they can then proudly place on their uniform so we can all see how well they’re doing. There are badges for all sorts of pursuits from water activities and martial arts to navigating and helping at home, so there is something for everyone.
Cub Scout groups originated about 9 years after Scouting was first established in 1907, in order to accommodate for all the younger brothers who wanted to get involved in Scouts and weren’t quite old enough yet! Of course, nowadays, it is not just young boys who can be a Scout and there are a lot more girls who are joining Cub packs. As is the case for both Beavers and Scouts too.
Cubs are encouraged to grow by their Cub Scout Leader, Akela, and also to keep to their Cub Scout promise and obey the Cub Scout Law.
